When a player is loaned out by Sassuolo because he can’t get games it doesn’t automatically strike that he should be an Everton target.
Saturday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport reports Gian Marco Ferrari has been the subject of an ‘offer’ from both Everton and Marseille. There’s no further explanation on the nature of the offers and whether they were to the player or his club.
What is pointed out is that Sampdoria, where Ferrari spent his loan, haven’t taken up their option to make the move permanent.
So here we have a 26 year old defender who Sassuolo couldn’t find a place for, who played most of Sampdoria’s games last season but couldn’t convince the club to buy him… and yet we’re told Everton wanted him so much this summer there’s been some sort of offer.
At the beginning of this month, July 4th, Corriere dello Sport linked Everton and it didn’t make sense then either.
After a bit of digging, we found that HITC had, just before the Corriere article, published one of their countless ‘Should such a club move for such a player?’ articles on Everton and Ferrari.
That found its way to Italy, and now we have a claim Everton made an offer.
Welcome to the rumour mill.
