RB Leipzig’s Emil Forsberg has admitted he’s spoken to his club about signing international teammate and Manchester United youngster Anthony Elanga.

Forsberg has been speaking to Fotboll Skanalen about possible arrivals at the German club this summer and his input into that process.

He’s been at Leipzig since a move from Malmo in January 2015, racking up 303 appearances for the club in that time, so he has some sway to say the least.

An overhaul of the current squad is expected this summer with Konrad Laimer and Christopher Nkunku already departing, leaving two big holes in the group that will need to be filled.

One arrival could be Manchester United’s Elanga, who has been linked with a potential exit from Old Trafford this summer after a frustrating campaign under Erik ten Hag in which he barely featured.

He needs gametime to continue his development and Leipzig could offer him just that, with the Bundesliga proving a superb location for young talent down the years.

Forsberg knows the Manchester United youngster well having played alongside him on the international stage with Sweden, and admits he’s spoken to Leipzig about him.

“I will sit down with the president, with Oliver, here soon and see what we should do,” he said.

“We’ll see. Anthony would have been a good fit with us. A young player who wants to get better. We’ll see. It can happen.

“I have spoken to Anthony. But it stays between us. I know Anthony quite well, so it’s quite normal if it were to come up.

“But he is a young and talented player who fits in with us. We have been good at developing young and talented players.”
