Basque newspaper El Correo are reliable when it comes to Atheltic Bilbao and on October 8th they claimed the La Liga side will try to convince Ander Herrera to leave Manchester United to return to San Mames in January.
The Spaniard moved to Old Trafford in 2014 and his current contract with the 20-time English champions runs down at the end of the season.
Several reports indicated that the midfielder’s future could be away from his current employers as he has not been offered a new deal so far.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the player’s desire is to sign a new deal with Jose Mourinho’s side in order to extend his stay with the Premier League outfit beyond this campaign.
It’s claimed that he feels comfortable in Manchester and with the former Chelsea manager as he remains confident that he can be an important member of the squad, which is why he is not convinced of rejoining Athletic.
The report further goes on to mention that Manchester United have made an offer for a new contract and it is now carefully being studied by both parties involved.
Mundo suggests the ‘logical thing’ is for Herrera to commit his future to United before the end of the calendar year, which will discourage any speculation surrounding his future.
