Wolverhampton Wanderers have taken concrete steps to sign Fluminense’s Jhon Arias this summer, and are close to getting a deal over the line.
The Premier League club saw a €20m bid rejected by Fluminense, and then we covered claims from Brazil yesterday stating that there could be progress in this case.
Globo Esporte now report Wolves have been successful in their efforts as they reached an agreement with the Brazilian club on Wednesday.
Vítor Pereira’s side will pay €22m [€17m + €5m bonuses] for the Colombia international and the Brazilian club will retain a 10% sell-on clause.
Despite the two clubs reaching an agreement on Wednesday, the 27-year-old is expected to feature against Cruzeiro later today, in a home match. The report adds he’ll say goodbye to fans before his switch to Molineux.
Globo claim Arias is expected to sign his Wolves contract this weekend, after sorting out some details. Their report is also been echoed by ESPN in Brazil and UOL.
According to UOL, Fluminense wanted to retain the player but changed their stance after he repeatedly asked to leave. The two parties have a good relationship, and this convinced the South American to accept Wolves’ offer.
To sum it up, Wolves reached an agreement with Fluminense on Wednesday. Arias will say goodbye to their fans later today and is expected to join the English club once he sorts out the last details.
