Aston Villa star Emiliano Martínez could now be tempted by a move to Saudi Arabia, as Manchester United continue to struggle to get a deal done for him.
That’s according to Clarín, who report that the paths leading to Manchester United have cooled for the time being.
They explain that Martínez’s situation is raising alarm bells in Argentina as a move to Manchester United is at a standstill and that has led to the possibility of him instead heading to Saudi Arabia.
He has an offer to move there too and that would be a problem for Argentina, who don’t want their number one playing in a lower league a year before the World Cup.
Manchester United have him on their radar as a replacement for André Onana but have not been able to strike a deal with Aston Villa. They even tried a loan deal, but that was rejected outright. Aston Villa have made it clear that they will only sell.
Thus, the player’s focus could turn to Saudi, where he has an offer and a recent change in the quota for foreign players, raising the bar from eight to ten, could work in his favour also.
It appears the onus is on Manchester United to pay up and convince Aston Villa, or risk Martínez heading to Saudi Arabia in the meantime.
