Bayern Munich defender Sacha Boey finds himself in limbo after a deadline day move to Everton collapsed.
The 25-year-old finds himself in ‘no sale and not future in Munich’ territory.
Bayern had been hoping to moving him on this summer and looked to Saudi Arabia this week before their window closed. A deal didn’t happen there either, with one move collapsing at the last minute.
Now Bayern are left stuck with a player they don’t want, who is not a part of their plans moving forwards.
Bayern sale failure
Tuesday’s print edition of Abendzeitung München explains that Bayern bosses Max Eberl and Christoph Freund would have liked to use the Saudi window to get their last remaining candidate for a sale – Sacha Boey – off the payroll.
They held talks with several clubs, and the defender was open to a move, but nothing came of it. The same as a potential move to Everton on deadline day for the Premier League.
The Toffees were also at the window before it closed but that move fell through at the last minute as well. Everton instead signed Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who has already made an immediate impact.
It’s led to an awkward situation as neither Bayern nor Boey want to be together. They’re now left looking at lesser options for him with a limited number of windows remaining open.
Limited playing time
The likelihood is that the Frenchman remains in Bavaria and sees limited game time at best.
Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic are ahead of him at right-back as it is. The signing of Nathaniel Brown means neither player will have to fill in at left-back as much this season either, further reducing Boey’s opportunities.
It would not have been the case at Everton, where he would have been first-choice right-back. Indeed, he may have been the only right-back in the squad if Maitland-Niles had not arrived as well.
There is little chance of redemption for him at Bayern, where he ‘will remain a flop’, one the club had hoped to get rid of this summer.
