Jadon Sancho departed Manchester United in the summer after several loans away from the club. Now, options for the attacker are quickly drying out.
Even as a free agent, the Englishman is failing to attract suitors. He remains without a club, having failed to impress at Aston Villa in the 2025/26 campaign.
Previously, Sancho had been sought after in Serie A. AS Roma had been pursuing his signature in 2025 but they later pulled out of discussions, having focused on other targets.
Reports have indicated their interest in signing the player for free but those suggestions have been shut down.
What’s been alleged
Journalist Filippo Biafora spoke to Mana Mana Sport about Roma’s possible interest.
He clarified he is the last name the Giallorossi would look to sign, even if for free.
This is mainly because the club wasn’t impressed with his attitude when discussions took place in 2025. He was still at Manchester United then.
He said – via ASRomaLive: “Honestly, Sancho is perhaps the last name I’d expect if a free agent were to be chosen, which is a scenario that seems to be increasingly distant in general.”
“He’s a player who was also the subject of extensive internal discussion last year. Given his behaviour during calls with the club and the coach, it’s unlikely he’ll be considered.”
Biafara revealed Roma and Gian Piero Gasperini wouldn’t want a player like him in the side.
“The way the negotiations were handled also created disagreements; he doesn’t seem like a player Roma would want to bring in.”
Our take: Sancho wouldn’t last under Gasperini
So far this season, Roma have looked very much like a Gasperini team. They have been ruthless with their intensity, winning all three games and could possibly be competing for the title. The Italian’s system demands players who offer significant work-ethic and Sancho is far from that.
He has caused off-field worries at Manchester United and the Giallorossi wouldn’t want those vibes around an increasingly positive atmosphere.
The decision makes a lot of sense. They would much rather save their finances and sign another player in January who can suit their setup more.
