Over the past two weeks, West Ham United’s desire to appoint Julen Lopetegui as David Moyes’ successor has been regularly discussed in the Italian media.
On Tuesday, Corriere della Sera stated the Hammers have doubled their offer. Later that day, Libero reported AC Milan supporters are against the 57-year-old’s arrival and this could favour West Ham.
The Spanish press have now joined in to give their own take on this case. EFE, relayed by Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, state ‘West Ham are on pole’.
West Ham are looking to replace Moyes, to give the club a new life and the Spaniard seems to be the ‘most desirable’ candidate. The report adds the latter has a market in the Premier League, where the London club are the closest to signing him.
It’s claimed West Ham have been working on his appointment ‘for months’ and there have been ‘recurring conversations’ between the two parties.
Lopetegui left Wolves due to a disagreement with their board, and wants to be clear about the Hammers’ objectives and the support they will offer him to achieve them. He also has offers from other clubs and won’t make a hasty decision on his future.
At the same time, the possibility of returning to the Premier League, where the financial aspect will be better than other leagues, is an ‘important incentive’ for him to end up opting for West Ham.
But he wants big things for the future, which can only be good for Hammers fans.
