Alphonse Areola spent last season on loan at Fulham and has now returned to his parent club, Paris Saint-Germian, after the Cottagers were relegated from the Premier League.

The goalkeeper’s displays for Fulham have caught West Ham United’s attention.

Four days ago, Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna reported the Hammers are interested in taking the 28-year-old on a loan deal with an option to buy.

Aouna’s claims are now backed up by Tuesday’s edition of L’Equipe and they state David Moyes’ side ‘want’ the Frenchman.

The custodian earns €750,000 per month and after a successful loan spell with Fulham, he could return to the Premier League and specifically to London due to West Ham’s interest.

It’s said the English club have ‘contacted’ the Ligue 1 giants and would like to ‘negotiate’ a loan deal with an option to buy.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side, however, ‘would prefer a sale’. L’Equipe explain the two clubs continue to ‘discuss and hope to find a solution quickly’ so that Areola could make a switch to West Ham.
