Watford striker Luca Kjerrumgaard has admitted that he expects to stay at the club after this season.
Tipsbladet have an interview with the striker today after a busy summer for him. He originally joined Udinese this summer in a €5m deal. He was then immediately sent to Watford on loan for the season.
The two clubs, both owned by the Pozzo family, regularly do such deals and have done throughout the Pozzo ownership.
Kjerrumgaard is, on paper at least, a Udinese player simply on loan at Watford. But he insists that the plan was always for him to head to Vicarage Road.
“It was the plan from the start that it would be like this,” he said.
“Without going into too much detail, I knew that I would be sold to Udinese, but they have a special collaboration with Watford, and they also have the same owner, so it was always intended that I would go through Udinese to get to Watford.
“So, my focus has always been on Watford. Since I am also owned by Udinese, I will also keep an eye on that club, but my primary focus has always been on Watford, and it will probably continue to be so.”
Watford move bringing happiness
What happens in the summer at the end of the loan deal, remains to be seen. Kjerrumgaard doesn’t have a definitive answer on that front. He does, though, believe that Watford will buy him from Udinese.
“The immediate plan is not for me to return to Udinese. The plan is for me to be here, and this is also where I want to be, so I am happy about that,” he added.
“It may also turn out to be a bonus that you are under two clubs, because these are two great clubs that have some exciting projects going on, but the plan is for me to stay here.”
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a solid start to life at Watford this season. He’s been a regular for them, with 13 appearances in all competitions. Eight of those are starts in the Championship.
He’s scored four goals to date, two against QPR in August and another double against Middlesbrough at the beginning of November. He’s more than happy with those numbers.
“The start has been excellent,” he concluded.
“It has gone a bit as I might have expected, because it has been a bit of an upheaval. I came from a different setup. I have come to a club with a completely different kind of money and status.
“It’s great to be a part of it, because it’s just a different way of playing football. There are two or three games every week, and it’s a different way of training and playing matches, so it’s been great.”
