In the winter market, RCD Mallorca cut short Cyle Larin’s loan stay at Feyenoord and sent him on loan to Southampton.

The Championship side have also secured a purchase clause as part of the deal.

Three months ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that the La Liga side hope Southampton make his stay permanent.

The Spanish club invested €7.5m to buy him from Real Valladolid in August 2023 and he’s one of their top earners. Therefore, they are looking to sell him to recover part of the fee and get him of their wage bill.

Tonda Eckert has regularly utilised the striker, who scored nine goals and contributed one assist from 20 matches for Southampton. His performances have already convinced the Saints.

On April 16th, Sport Witness relayed news the English club will make a real effort to buy him and the player also wants a permanent move to St Mary’s.

Larin impressing at Southampton

Wednesday’s edition of Última Hora‘s looks at what could happen to Cyle Larin’s future after this season.

His immediate goal is to extend his good run at Southampton and represent Canada at the World Cup.

The Saints have secured a place in the Championship playoffs, and the 31-year-old played a part in it.

In the event of the Premier League promotion, the €4m purchase clause will automatically activate.

If there’s no promotion, the purchase clause will become an option and not obligation. In that case, Tonda Eckert’s side will seriously consider buying him and may even seek a discount.

The Spanish club would welcome the Canada international sale to Southampton.

That’s because it’ll help save on his €4m per year salary and also offset the amortisation amount of his transfer fee.

Our take: Southampton sale benefits all parties

RCD Mallorca are determined to sell Cyle Larin, who seems happy to extend his stay at St Mary’s.

His sale to Southampton will see the La Liga side ease off their financial burden.

It’ll also allow the player to have stability and the Saints get a proven striker. In short, this deal can be win-win for all parties.
