Tottenham star Micky van de Ven has admitted he is undergoing continued work on his hamstring to ensure there is no recurrence of previous injuries.

The centre-back has been speaking to Via Play in the Netherlands on various topics, including the adaptation he’s undergone physically since arriving in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has been a regular for Tottenham since joining from Wolfsburg in a €40m deal in August 2023, quickly establishing himself as a key player under Ange Postecoglou.

However, he has spent some time out of action, with an ongoing hamstring injury continuing to rule him out at various stages.

He missed 14 games for club and country in 2021/22 at Wolfsburg with the first occurrence of the injury, before it flared up again last season and saw him spending 56 days and 12 games out of action before a further 18 days and four games out of action in March.

The problem is something that he needs to work on moving forwards, with the hope that it does not become a long-term issue that ultimately damages his career.

That’s something he’s more than aware of, with the Tottenham man admitting that he has to undergo a special training regime to manage the problem.

“Your body gets used to it (Premier League intensity) But of course you still have to find the right balance,” he said.

“So of course, what’s best for your body and your recovery, those are really important things. So of course you have to find your balance. But as you say, the more games you play, the more you will find your balance in that.

“I think my hamstring is something with my explosiveness that I really have to work on. And I’m definitely still working on that every day.

“So, it’s important that I don’t get another hamstring injury. Because my biggest issues were two injuries, and those were both hamstrings. Those are points of attention for me.

“(I do) very targeted exercises. Yes, keep training on those hamstrings. Of course, around it is also very important. But I still train specifically on those hamstrings.”
