We’ve already covered this story quite a bit over the past few hours, but solid updates just keep coming.
Mikey Johnston’s move to Flamengo is now a done deal, and the full financial details of the transfer have been confirmed.
West Bromwich Albion are set to collect around £5m from the sale of the Irish winger, with the agreement also including performance-based bonuses.
That’s according to journalist Venê Casagrande and Globo Esporte, who had reported advanced talks between the clubs earlier today. Now, according to reporter Cahê Mota, the deal is fully agreed and Johnston is expected to land in Rio de Janeiro next Tuesday on a flight from London to sign his contract with Flamengo.
The fixed fee is close to £5m, with additional payments depending on targets achieved during his time in Brazil. Flamengo have agreed to a four-year contract with the 26-year-old.
The move will see West Brom secure a healthy profit, having paid Celtic approximately €3.5m (around £3m) to sign Johnston in August 2024 following a successful loan spell.
The transfer has been led by Flamengo’s Director of Football José Boto, who worked with Johnston during their time together at Portuguese side Vitória de Guimarães in the 2022/23 season.
With the deal now closed, the winger prepares to start a new chapter in Brazil, and Flamengo are set to officially announce the signing once all formalities are completed next week.
