Striker Roberto Soldado has admitted ‘suffered a lot’ during his ill-fated spell with Tottenham Hotspur.
The Spanish forward spent two years with Tottenham between 2013 and 2015, having arrived as part of the influx of transfers following Gareth Bale’s move to Real Madrid.
There were big hopes around the £27m man, who arrived from Spain after impressing during his time with Valencia.
He was unable to replicate his form from La Liga, though, managing just 16 goals and 11 assists in 76 games in all competitions before being sold to Villarreal for £14.4m in August 2015.
His time at the club has largely been deemed a disaster, with many happy to put him alongside Tottenham’s worst purchases in recent years.
It’s an assessment he seemingly agrees with, admitting that his two years with the club were very hard for him and his family.
“It was a league that attracted me a lot,” he told Spanish newspaper AS in an interview today.
“I thought my game could adapt very well, but the reality was very different.
“I suffered a lot every time I was on the field, it was a very physical football, and I saw myself overcome on all sides.
“Perhaps mentally being away, the language, affected me a lot, my family did not quite fit in with London very well, and they were two very hard years because I did not enjoy them.”
