Tottenham Hotspur and Federico Chiesa has been something of a big deal in the Italian media on Thursday. Earlier we covered claims which stated the Juventus player is close to joining Spurs in a deal worth €30-35m.
That figure felt too high given the majority of reports in Italy recently have put Juventus’ asking price at €20-25m. Chiesa’s contract has less than a year left to run so that puts pressure on the Turin club.
Italian journalist Gianni Balzarini now comes up with his own claims, and they’re not too dissimilar from what was said earlier today.
TuttoJuve quote him as saying: “I confirm that Tottenham are interested in Federico Chiesa. That is, Tottenham would be ready to make an offer of around €30m, maybe even a little more, for Federico Chiesa and Juve could practically jump for joy.
“In the sense that it would be a figure that goes beyond the €20-25m that Roma or Napoli offered or could eventually offer.”
The obvious question here is why on earth would Tottenham just go in at €10m above what has supposedly been the asking price and what other clubs are thought to be prepared to offer.
It doesn’t really seem like a Spurs thing to do. There’s a scenario where they may have to go higher if a real competition develops but that would likely come later if at all.
