Sunderland‘s Abdoullah Ba has seen his move to Sivasspor collapse on Turkish deadline day.
That’s according to Spor Depor journalist Reşat Can Özbudak. He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a short update about the 23-year-old.
Sivasspor’s efforts to sign Sunderland man
The second division Turkish club wanted to take the midfielder away from the Black Cats.
Sivasspor had until Friday to complete his signing as the transfer window in Turkey closed yesterday.
The operation was at an advanced stage before it came close to collapsing on Thursday.
On Friday, Sport Witness covered a report from Turkey that Abdoullah Ba’s deal was back on. At that time, he was undergoing medical tests and was on the verge of completing his move to the TFF 1. Lig side.
New twist in Sunderland man’s transfer
The new development revived the operation before it collapsed at the last minute. Reşat Can Özbudak, who covered yesterday’s report, now provides fresh updates on his failed move.
He reports Abdoullah Ba had carried out medical tests with the Turkish club. Despite this, Sivasspor have decided against completing the Frenchman’s signing.
Özbudak states: ‘Sivasspor have cancelled the transfer of Abdoullah Ba, who plays for Sunderland! This decision was made after the medical examination.’

After completing the medical, Sivasspor analysed the results. The outlet states Ba ‘didn’t meet the criteria set by the club for the transfer’ and therefore, they decided against signing him at the last-minute.
The midfielder has made only one appearance for Sunderland since Régis Le Bris arrived at the Stadium of Light in 2024.
Ba’s failed move to Turkey now leaves him in limbo as he’s not in Sunderland’s Premier League squad this season. He has to move to a club where the window is still open or wait until January to leave the Black Cats.
His contract expires in 2027, and Transfermarkt value him at €1.5m.
