With Thibaut Courtois trying to force a move to Spain, with Real Madrid the most likely destination, Chelsea have been looking around Europe for a new goalkeeper.

Reports in Italy, as recently as Monday morning, have claimed Maurizio Sarri would like to have a reunion with Pepe Reina, who only joined Milan this summer, but Mundo Deportivo seem to think the Blues have other idea.

In an exclusive on Monday afternoon, the Catalan newspaper claim that barring an ‘unexpected U-turn’, Chelsea will pay Jan Oblak’s €100m release clause, and will most likely do so in the next 24 hours.

Explaining that after trying for Alisson and Reina, Roman Abramovich has chosen to spend €100m on Oblak, doing so now before Thursday’s transfer deadline day for English clubs.

Of course, Chelsea paying the release clause doesn’t necessarily mean the Slovenia international will move, as he has the final say in the matter despite Atlético Madrid not having much of a say down their end.

We’ll have to wait and see if the Blues actually do make this move, which would undoubtedly be welcome by the Stamford Bridge faithful.
