On Friday, Mundo Deportivo reported Real Madrid would only consider investing big on Manchester City’s Rodri to strengthen their midfield this summer. They also believe it’s worth paying €100m for him.
Monday’s edition of AS has a report on the 29-year-old stating that ‘signing Rodri is the next big goal’ of Real Madrid.
Los Blancos are prioritising signing a midfielder and the Manchester City star has been identified as a target.
They have the financial means, and that will only increase if Real Madrid were to sell Rodrygo.
Xabi Alonso’s side believe it’s more feasible to sign the 29-year-old over other targets mainly because his contract expires in 2027 and he hasn’t yet signed an extension. Despite his age, the Madrid club feel he still has his best years ahead.
The Spain international suffered a serious knee injury last September and returned to the pitch in May, playing four games for Manchester City at the Club World Cup. His long-term absence due to an injury seems to be a concern for Real Madrid.
According to AS, Real Madrid want to see how he performs after recovering from a serious setback. If he doesn’t sign an extension next summer, Pep Guardiola’s side may be forced to sell him.
This indicates Real Madrid would be looking at Rodri for 2026 even though he’s their ‘big goal’ for midfield.
