Tottenham Hotspur may have made a big investment to sign Lucas Bergvall from Djurgarden next summer, but at just 18 he’s obviously still in need of proving himself, especially at the national team.

So far, the midfielder only has one cap for Sweden, made in January this year, and given his recent success which drew Spurs’ attention, there’s now a desire for him to get more chances to represent his country.

Local outlet SVT today shares some quotes from their expert Daniel Nannskog. Since new manager Jon Dahl Tomasson will make his first call-up this week, he’s been urged to give the future Tottenham player some more minutes in the first team.

“It’s clear that we’ve produced some young players recently, such as Lucas Bergvall and Roony Bardghji, and I’d be very keen to call them up. Why not let the younger players be there to see and learn. Considering the kind of games that are coming up, training games.”

“With Bergvall there is a bigger question mark because he has only been in the Swedish league with Djurgården. But at the same time, he has shown so many interesting things with his game that bodes very well for the future.”

Bergvall may still be fighting for more minutes at the national team, but despite his young age, he was already able to show a lot at Djurgarden.

Featuring for his club this year, he already has 351 minutes on the pitch, with two goals and four assists in just five matches.

Now we’ll see if he’ll get more opportunities to play for Sweden, giving Tottenham fans some more chances to watch him before he joins Spurs in the summer.
