Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Tottenham will need to make ‘attractive’ offers to Boca Juniors if they are to get Kevin Zenón.
That’s according to LM Neuquén, who report that the Argentine club have no interest in selling the 23-year-old on the cheap.
A report in England has named Aston Villa, Newcastle and Tottenham as being seriously interested in Zenón, who is seen as the next big thing coming out of Boca Juniors.
It claimed all three are ready to step up their interest in the midfielder and could even move in the January transfer window to secure his signature.
That’s quickly been picked up on in Argentina, where they appear to have taken the report as verbatim and whipped themselves up in to something of a frenzy about it.
LM Neuquén cover the claim and how Zenón appears to be ‘on the international scene’ and potentially gearing up for a move in January.
They say Newcastle being mentioned is not surprising given they already sent emissaries to closely observe Zenón during the February superclásico at the Monumental, five days before his debut for Boca. The interest from Tottenham and Aston Villa appears to be new.
Their belief is that it stems from the fact Zenón has a $13-15m release clause in his contract, which could make him a cheap risk worth taking.
They’re keen to point out, though, that Boca have already rejected an $18m from Hoffenheim in Germany and seem to have no intention of letting the player go easily.
This is something they may reconsider if Aston Villa, Newcastle or Tottenham make an ‘attractive offer’ but it’s worth considering when reports like this gain traction.
