On winter deadline day, Sevilla allowed Kelechi Iheanacho to join Middlesbrough on a loan deal until the end of this season.

The striker joined the La Liga club on a free transfer last summer and signed a contract until 2026, with an option for another year.

He failed to score a goal or register an assist in the league and Sevilla decided to send the 28-year-old on loan to Middlesbrough.

Estadio Deportivo now state his future will certainly be away from the Championship side.

They say Boro are covering 80% of his salary during the loan spell and could cover 100% and offer more bonuses depending on whether they finish this season. Michael Carrick’s side are eighth in the table, three points behind sixth placed Coventry City.

The Nigeria international played 676 minutes from 11 league games for Middlesbrough and managed a goal and two assists in the process. The report indicates his performances haven’t been convincing and therefore, it’s ‘seems impossible’ for him to continue next season.

Sevilla sporting director Víctor Orta has to look for a solution for Iheanacho, after publicly stating his signing was a mistake. He discussed the striker during new manager Joaquín Caparrós’s presentation.

“It’s clear that investing in Kelechi this season was a mistake, and we will analyse why we did it; we’re already doing so,” he said.

In order to fix his mistake, Estadio state Orta is looking for a new striker and also a club for Iheanacho.

There was no shortage of offers in January as the report states clubs from France, Turkey, Scotland, Italy, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the US all looked at him. Sevilla are hoping for the same in the summer window.
