Wolverhampton Wanderers target Gerard Martín has suffered an injury blow while with Spain U21s, according to Jijantes FC.
Hansi Flick promoted the left-back to the first at the start of this season and he acted as a backup for Alejandro Balde. Martín played 1,793 minutes from 42 games, managing a goal and an assist in the process.
Wolves are looking to sign the 23-year-old this summer. Three days ago, Sport reported the English club will tempt him by offering a significant raise in salary.
On Tuesday, AS stated Jorge Mendes, who doesn’t represent the fullback, has registered Wolves’ interest with Barcelona. The super-agent has close ties with the two clubs and can help with this operation.
Yesterday, we covered claims from Spain which stated there’s a serious chance Martín can leave the Camp Nou this summer. It was also said Bournemouth have joined Wolves in the transfer race.
Spain U21 manager Santi Denia included Martín in the squad for U21 Euros, but he’s been forced to withdraw due to an injury.
Jijantes FC state the Wolves target ‘has a broken right hand’ and will immediately undergo surgery. Martín is travelling to Barcelona for the operation.
His setback shouldn’t kill Wolves’ hope of securing his services this summer as it doesn’t sound like a long-term injury.
