Trent Alexander-Arnold has announced his decision to leave Liverpool when his contract expires on June 30th. The right-back is set to join Real Madrid, and the Reds could move to sign his replacement in the summer window.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is now expected to take Alexander-Arnold’s place at Liverpool next season. That’s according to Kicker, and their title says Frimpong is ‘on the verge of a move’ to the Merseyside club.

Within the report, it’s explained the operation to take the Netherlands international to Anfield is about to be closed.

It’s claimed talks between the defender and the Premier League club are at a very advanced stage and are ‘close to being successfully completed’. The report states only final details need to be sorted out, without explaining what those details are.

The 24-year-old has a contract until 2028, which has a €40m release clause. Kicker claim the Premier League winners are willing to pay this fee to secure his services. Due to the buyout clause, Arne Slot’s side don’t have to negotiate with the Bundesliga club.

Kicker add Frimpong is expected to sign a five-year contract with Liverpool.
