Rangers manager Philippe Clement may be without Rabbi Matondo beyond the winter market.

Ajax have identified the winger as one of the candidates to strengthen their attack in this window.

That’s according to De Telegraaf, who explain Ajax technical director Alex Kroes has the Rangers man and two other players in his list.

Francesco Farioli, the Eredivisie side’s manager, would like to cut short Carlos Forbs’ loan stay at Wolverhampton Wanderers and bring him back. Kroes has other ideas and one of them is to sign Matondo.

The report states the Dutch club’s scouting team are ‘particularly fond’ of the 24-year-old, who joined Rangers from Schalke in July 2022.

Matondo has scored two goals and registered three assists from eight games for Philippe Clement’s side this season. He missed over three months due to a hamstring injury and since regaining full fitness in December, he made two appearances for Rangers.

As well as the Wales international, Kroes has Barcelona’s Ansu Fati and Go Ahead Eagles’ Oliver Valaker Edvardsen as other names in his list. The report suggests it’s easier to sign the latter due to the director’s good ties with his club.

With regards to Matondo, there’s no mention whether he or Rangers are open to doing business with Ajax.

De Telegraaf suggest Forbs or Edvardsen could be a better fit than the Rangers player and Fati.
