Nottingham Forest defender Murillo has insisted he’s “on the right path” to being recognised by the Brazilian national team at some point in the near future.

Premier League Brasil cover comments from the centre-back today in which he calms any fears about his international future and insists he thinks Brazil will recognise him eventually.

The 22-year-old has been a regular for Nottingham Forest since joining in a €12m deal from Corinthians in August last year.

He’s earned plenty of admirers since his arrival, with a series of impressive performances for his club even seeing Chelsea explore the idea of a move in the summer transfer window.

He is yet to appear for the Brazilian national team at any level, though, failing to make an appearance for their youth sides or earn a call up to the senior side.

The latter is hardly surprising at this moment in time with the Selecao boasting a plethora of centre back talent at this moment in time with the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes, Gleison Bremer, Eder Militao, Marquinhos, Lucas Beraldo, Danilo and Fabricio Bruno all ahead of the Nottingham Forest defender at this moment in time.

He’s not concerned about that, thought, and believes he is on the right track right now to change that in the near future.

“I don’t know the main reason why I’m not going to the national team, but I think it’s because of the great competition for positions. They are great players,” he said.

“I’m still calm and I hope to continue having an exceptional season this year and, when I have the opportunity, I’ll make the most of it, so I never leave.

“Today we see very qualified players defending the Brazilian team. Even more so on the defensive side, with Magalhães, Beraldo, Militão, Marquinhos, Bremer, Fabricio Bruno… It’s a very big competition, but I believe I’m on the right path. I’m playing good games and, when you play good games on your team, the selection starts to become more apparent.

“This is my second year as a professional, so I still have a lot to learn. I think I’m on the right path, it’s to keep working hard so that, who knows, one day, I can be among the top 5 defenders in the Premier League.”
