Sao Paulo would need help from Evangelos Marinakis to buy Ramon Sosa from Nottingham Forest at any point in the future.
That’s according to journalist Jorge Nicola, who reports that there is little chance of the deal happening at this moment in time.
Reports throughout this week have linked Sosa with a potential move to Brazil this summer after a disappointing and frustrating first year for him with Nottingham Forest.
The performances of the likes of Antony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi have left the winger on the outside looking in and reports from his homeland have made it clear that he is not happy with the situation.
All indications have been that he will move on in the summer transfer window and both Sao Paulo, Flamengo and Palmeiras have been linked as potential suitors.
The first of that trio are of particular interest as Nottingham Forest owner Marinakis is currently locked in talks to invest in the Brazilian club’s youth system. They would, in some ways, be added to his growing network of football club’s via a special arrangement.
And Nicola now reports he’d have to do the Brazilian side a favour if they were to sign Ramon Sosa from Nottingham Forest this summer.
“Newspaper writers who cover São Paulo are raising the possibility that São Paulo, with the help of Marinakis, will gain an important reinforcement,” he said.
“Before recording the video, I checked to see if São Paulo is discussing any possibility of a partnership with Marinakis in relation to repatriating athletes who are not doing so well at Nottingham Forest, in the event that Forest will loan or permanently negotiate Ramon Sousa.
“The answer to this question is yes, São Paulo can be a safe haven for athletes who do not perform well at Nottingham Forest, but specifically in relation to Ramon Sousa, the name of this athlete has never been discussed, and São Paulo does not see itself capable of making any move without the help of the Greek magnate.
“He’s a player worth €12,13,14m and this is completely outside of São Paulo’s reality. The chance is minimal, if not zero. Never at any time did São Paulo and Marinakis specifically discuss this player. This answer was given to me by someone from São Paulo who is on the front line in the negotiations with the Greek magnate.”
