Sporting Club de Portugal striker Viktor Gyökeres has admitted his decision to leave Coventry City for the Portuguese club was the best decision of his life.
A Bola have an interview with the striker today as he celebrates a second title with Sporting.
He joined the Portuguese side in a €24m move in July 2023 after several years impressing with Coventry in the Championship, bagging 43 goals and 17 assists in 116 games for the club.
He’s smashed that record out of the park since, with 96 goals and 28 assists in 101 games for Sporting Lisbon since. He’s now one of the leading strikers in Europe and being sought after by all of the top clubs on the continent.
The decision to go to Sporting at the time was a brave one for the striker, who also had offers in the Premier League but decided to ignore those and head into Europe instead.
Gyökeres certainly doesn’t have any regrets about his decision when leaving Coventry and admits it was the best choice of his life to date.
“Yes, of course it was the best choice,” he said.
“It was a great choice and a great opportunity. And it’s been great so far. Of course it has changed a lot. Many things happened. We had a lot of good memories together, a lot of good games. And, of course, I grew as a player, I became better and as a person too.”
