Brøndby IF sporting director Benjamin Schmedes claims Clement Bischoff needs to come out stronger after a failed move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Schmedes has been speaking to Viaplay about the 19-year-old’s situation after he couldn’t secure a future transfer to Brighton and Bold.dk have relayed his comments.

After the end of the winter market, Brighton were in advanced negotiations with Brøndby over an agreement for the left-back to arrive at The Amex in the summer.

Back in February, Tipsbladet stated Bischoff had made a trip to the UK to undergo medical tests with the Seagulls. The same outlet then reported the operation collapsed due to the last-minute disagreement between the two parties.

On March 28th, the Denmark U21 international expressed his unhappiness after his dream move to Brighton collapsed. Brøndby manager Frederik Birk has also talked about his struggles since the failed move to Brighton.

Schmedes is of the belief the youngster has time on his side to put aside the Brighton disappointment.

“He’s still a very young player, and this is part of his development, even though it’s not something you want as a player,” he said.

“If he comes out of it, and I’m pretty sure he will soon, it will strengthen his personality as a footballer.”

Former Everton, Real Madrid and Celtic midfielder Thomas Gravesen, who’s now an expert for Viaplay, claims Bischoff’s failure to join Brighton is a disaster for Schmedes. Tipsbladet have relayed his comments.

“I would say that it has been almost catastrophic. Benjamin Schmedes comes in to create what Brøndby is looking for: to be able to sell players to Premier League clubs. Benjamin Schmedes couldn’t do that,” Gravesen explained.

“He couldn’t sell Clement Bischoff, even though he stood knocking on Brighton’s door. So, for me it has been a disaster.”
