Norwegian newspaper VG are confident that Manchester United are closing in on appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjær as the interim manager.

An agreement could be signed as soon as Friday.

TuttoSport report Manchester United have already approached an option for the summer, and the man in question is former Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi.

Now at Al-Hilal, the Italian is said to have been approached after Ruben Amorim’s sacking. Inzaghi’s entourage was contacted and the 49-year-old was told that he would be made the highest-paid manager in England.

Manchester United told ‘No thanks’

Despite that, Manchester United were told ‘no thanks’, with Inzaghi only focused on Al-Hilal right now.

He currently earns €50m on his two-year deal and this was also an important reason behind the rejection.

Al-Hilal are now back at the top of the Saudi Pro League table. They find themselves one point clear of Al-Nassr, with Inzaghi keen on winning silverware.

This is a classic TuttoSport approach and they’re no strangers to linking the best Italian managers with Manchester United… and saying the club have been rejected. They have previously suggested Tottenham and Arsenal as destinations for Inzaghi, so this isn’t really new from the newspaper.

Tuttosport have linked Massimiliano Allegri with an Old Trafford move at any chance possible, and it appears Inzaghi is the new name.
