In May, Alfredo Pedulla covered Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Pisa defender Francesco Coppola.
At that point, the youngster was loaned out to Vis Pesaro in Serie C. At that point he’d played over 3000 minutes in all competitions, previously coming through Pisa’s youth academy.
His parent club are now in Serie A but Coppola suffered an ankle injury earlier in the season. This ruled him out for the majority of games, hindering his progress.
The 20-year-old made his first appearance of the season against Como on Tuesday. As he started the tie, Gianluca di Marzio took a closer look at the talent.
The journalist explains Tottenham came forward for Coppola in the summer. This attempt was rejected by Pisa, who also turned down an offer from Lens.
The Tuscany side ‘blindly’ trust the youngster to grow this season. Their initial idea was to use him regularly since the start of the campaign but the injury impacted those goals.
It is believed that ‘his time has come’ in Serie A, with manager Alberto Gilardino set to use him more often.
This could be something Tottenham can keep an eye on. It will not be a surprise if more clubs come calling for Coppola soon.
