Newcastle United‘s Odysseas Vlachodimos is likely to leave the Premier League side permanently in the summer.

In August 2025, the Magpies let the goalkeeper join Sevilla on loan, after he struggled for a prominent role last season.

The Newcastle United man has enjoyed regular game time with the La Liga side, who want to retain him.

Sevilla sporting director Antonio Cordón has confirmed this and also said the 32-year-old intends to stay. The Magpies have to decide whether to sanction another loan or sell him after this season.

On April 28th, Sport Witness relayed news the Greece international wants assurances from Eddie Howe of being first choice if he returns to Newcastle United. If not, he wants to move to another club.

Newcastle United man has options

Orgullo Biri, a website dedicated their coverage on Sevilla, cover the latest on Odysseas Vlachodimos’ future.

The Spanish club accept it’ll be difficult to compete with others for his signature. Due to his age, they won’t be able to sell him for profit in the future, and that influences their decision.

He’s attracting interest from unnamed clubs from the Premier League, Championship and the Bundesliga.

The Newcastle United owned player’s former club, Panathinaikos dream of his return and would be willing to make an investment. Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Greece that he’s in contact with their owner, Yiannis Alafouzos.

Eddie Howe’s side are awaiting offers to finalise his sale ‘as soon as possible’. The Premier League side want to get rid of him permanently in the summer.

Our take: Magpies need new stopper

Nick Pope, Aaron Ramsdale [on loan from Southampton], Mark Gillespie and John Ruddy are now the four goalkeepers at Newcastle United.

Gillespie and Ruddy’s contracts expire in June, while Ramsdale and Pope’s futures need sorting out.

The Magpies are likely to sign at least one stopper and Odysseas Vlachodimos’ sale can partly fund that operation.
