Sevilla sporting director Antonio Cordón has expressed his desire to retain Newcastle United goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos beyond this season.

The Greece international arrived at St James’ Park from Nottingham Forest for £20m [€23.18m] in July 2024.

Eddie Howe limited him to one appearance in his debut season and Newcastle United let the stopper join Sevilla on loan in August 2025.

Vlachodimos initially sat on the bench before making his debut against CA Alavés the following month.

Since then, he has been the No.1 for the La Liga side, keeping four clean sheets and conceding 41 goals from 25 matches. Below are his statistics from his loan spell with the Andalusian club so far per game.

  • Goals conceded: 1.7
  • Penalties saved: 1/10
  • Saves per game: 3.0
  • Goals conceded inside box: 37
  • Goals conceded outside box: 3
  • Saves from inside box: 54
  • Saves from outside box: 17

Sevilla will financially struggle to cover a permanent deal, and the stopper has to return to the Premier League side after this season. The Magpies will then have to sort out his future in the summer.

Newcastle United man desired by several clubs

On Sunday, the Newcastle United owned player conceded five goals in the league defeat to Barcelona. Prior to the clash at the Camp Nou, Cordón had a chat with DAZN in Spain and Vamos Mi Sevilla FC have relayed his comments.

Former Sevilla and Aston Villa director Monchi appeared as a commentator for DAZN and interviewed Cordón.

He specifically asked Cordón whether Vlachodimos will be at Sevilla after this season. When responding to that, the director talked about the Greek’s transfer desire and the competition they’ll face to retain him.

“We’d like to keep him. We’ll see, he’s very happy in the city. It’s a city that’s important for every player who comes here. Nobody wants to leave, and he certainly intends to stay, but we know his club knows he’s doing very well,” he said.

“There are big clubs in Europe that are also following him, and well, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Vlachodimos’ contract, value and agent info

Newcastle United

Despite Cordón’s latest admission, the 31-year-old refused to comment last week when asked about his future beyond this season.

Transfermarkt value the stopper, who has contract with the Magpies is until 2028, at €4m. This, coupled with his performances for Sevilla would make him an option in the summer market.

However, Howe’s side are likely to demand a fee much higher than €4m, especially since other unnamed European clubs are keen.

This would make it complicated for Sevilla to retain Vlachodimos, unless he pushes for a new deal. On the open market, Newcastle United should be able to get a better fee than what Sevilla would be able to pay.

He’s represented by a German agency, Fair Sport Gmbh, headed by Joannis Koukoutrigas.
