Newcastle United goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos joined the Premier League side from Nottingham Forest in July 2024.
Eddie Howe handed him only one appearance in his debut season at St James’ Park.
In search of regular game time, Newcastle United let him join Sevilla on a season-long loan deal last August.
The stopper’s decision to join the La Liga side worked out well as he’s enjoying minutes this season. He made his Sevilla debut in September and has been their No.1 since then.
His La Liga stats this season are as follows:
- Appearances: 29
- Starts: 29
- Total minutes: 2,610
- Goals conceded: 48
- Clean sheets: 4
- Total saves: 83
- Saves per game: 2.9
- Penalties saved: 1/10
On March 16th, Sevilla sporting director Antonio Cordón said the Newcastle United owned player intends to stay after this season.
Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain his future is at the mercy of the Magpies.
Pivotal summer for Newcastle United man
Sky Deutschland now cover the latest on where the Stuttgart-born goalkeeper can play next season.
Sevilla have a desire to retain him but there’s a slim chance he continues with them after this season. He will have to make a decision on his future, and the report insists the stopper faces ‘another pivotal moment in his career’.
As the Andalusian club don’t have a purchase clause, the 32-year-old has to return to the Tyneside club in the summer.
Odysseas Vlachodimos is attracting interest from several top unnamed clubs, who have expressed their desire to sign him. The former VfB Stuttgart man could consider returning to the Bundesliga if he doesn’t stay at Newcastle United next season.
He will only stay at Newcastle United if he were to be their No.1 next season. In short, the Greece international needs assurance from Eddie Howe’s side and if not, he’s likely to leave, either on loan or a permanent transfer, in the summer.
Our take: Newcastle United stay unlikely
The Magpies could bring in a new goalkeeper in the next window and are already linked to a few players.
If a new stopper were to arrive, Odysseas Vlachodimos won’t be Newcastle United’s No.1 next season. It looks a like a summer move is on the cards for him.
The Greek international’s contract expires in 2028, and Transfermarkt value him at €4m.
