Fikayo Tomori

Newcastle United are working on signing AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori this summer, after making an initial approach.

Earlier this week, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy that Newcastle United made contact for the centre-back.

On Friday, we relayed news the 28-year-old has decided to leave the San Siro after falling down the pecking order.

He’s attracting interest from Newcastle United, Coventry City, Hull City and West Ham United and is awaiting offers. Tomori is in the UK for pre-season with Milan and is waiting for a concrete update from his agent.

Newcastle United make advances

MilanNews24 have a report focusing only on the Magpies and their title says Eddie Howe’s side ‘break the deadlock’.

The Premier League club have taken a concrete step to sign the former Chelsea man by submitting an initial bid of €15m.

This shows Newcastle United’s determination to bring Fikayo Tomori to St James’ Park.

Fresh effort from Newcastle United needed

For now, the Rossoneri leaders are taking time to reflect on the bid before giving a final response. They are likely to reject it.

Ruben Amorin’s side have no intention of selling the England international for €15m and continue to seek €20m including bonuses.

The distance isn’t unsurmountable and there will be further negotiations between the clubs to reduce the gap.

AC Milan could request Eddie Howe’s side improve their offer slightly during new contact in the next few hours.

The England international’s contract lasts until 2027, and Transfermarkt value him at €17m.

Milan have to sell Fikayo Tomori in this window, to avoid losing him for free next year. This could let Newcastle United find an agreement for less than €20m with bonuses.

Tomori wants to leave and therefore, the Tyneside club agreeing personal terms with him is unlikely to be an issue.

There could be more developments in the next few hours or days.
