Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu is in line for a shock move to Dinamo Zagreb this summer.
That’s according to Večernji List, who claim the Croatian club have been offered an opportunity to sign him.
No future at Southampton
It’s unclear whether Southampton or the 24-year-old’s agent has offered him to Dinamo Zagreb.
Fenerbahçe’s Dominik Livaković spent this year on loan with them and the Croatian club are keen on his return this summer.
While waiting for the outcome of the negotiations for Livaković, an opportunity to sign Gavin Bazunu has been presented.
This is likely for a permanent transfer and there’s no mention of a figure. They will receive 30% from his future sale, meaning the Championship side retain a high sell-on clause.
Večernji List state ‘financial structure’ of the deal would be acceptable for Dinamo. Their management will make a final decision in the coming days on whether to move forward.
The Southampton player’s contract expires in 2027, and Transfermarkt value him at €8m. There’s a possibility of Tonda Eckert’s side letting the stopper leave cheaply this summer.
There’s no indication of whether Bazunu is open to this surprise move to Croatia, however, the assumption would be that he is.
Southampton man’s injury struggles
The Republic of Ireland international left Manchester City for Southampton in 2022 and was a regular in the first two seasons.
He had an Achilles tendon rupture in April 2024, forcing him to spend 261 days on the sidelines. Saints sent him on loan to Standard Liège in January and the move didn’t work out.
The stopper made eight appearances for the Belgian club before a knee injury cut short his loan stay at Standard Liège.
Last season, Gavin Bazunu made 19 appearances for the Championship side before going out on loan to Stoke City. Two different injuries limited his appearances with the Potters. A thigh problem in January kept him away for 72 days before suffering another setback.
A move to Dinamo Zagreb could help him maintain fitness and also enjoy regular minutes.
