Newcastle United are ‘serious candidates’ to sign defender Dean Huijsen from Juventus in the summer as they look for a replacement for Sven Botman.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, who say Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund are eyeing a move for the 18-year-old this summer.
The newspaper reports that the Newcastle and Dortmund ‘have the best credentials’ to sign Huijsen from Juventus in the summer, with the Germans seeing him as a possible successor to Mats Hummels.
Newcastle United, meanwhile, want to add defensive options to their squad following the long-term injury to Sven Botman, who could be out for up to nine months.
He’s currently on loan at AS Roma and has been featuring regularly for them and the belief is that Juventus will look to move him on in a permanent capacity in the summer.
Reports in Italy have indicated they would like to use him as part of a deal with Atalanta for Teun Koopmeiners but that’s yet to be properly formulated and Newcastle and Dortmund are the ‘only serious candidates’ so far.
Juventus have put a €30m asking price on the Dutchman, who also made his debut for Spain’s U21 side this week after previous appearing a U17, U18 and U19 level for the Netherlands.
Whether Newcastle are willing or capable of paying such a fee remains to be seen but they’re at the front of the queue jostling with Dortmund at this point either way.
