Dan Neil has been a key part of Sunderland’s first-team for four seasons now.

The midfielder played 44 times in the Championship in the 2024/25 season and had an important role in their promotion to the top-flight.

It came as a reward for the Englishman’s consistency for the Black Cats and now, an exit from Sunderland could be on the horizon for the 23-year-old.

Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by SiamoLaRoma, report Neil has attracted interest from AS Roma and he could become an important target for them in the summer transfer window.

The Giallorossi are also keeping an eye on Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi, who had an argument with former manager Simone Inzaghi during the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. He is in need of more game time and this can bring about a move back to Roma.

A move for Frattesi is expected to be quite expensive and that is why moving for Neil can become an option.

Roma and Sunderland dealt with each other during the January transfer window, when Enzo Le Fee joined the English side on an initial loan deal with the obligation to buy.

Perhaps this relationship can prove handy for Roma.
