Justin Bijlow’s failed move to Southampton was because of the wrist injuries he’s suffered in the last few years.
That’s according to journalist Mikos Gouka, relayed by Feyenoord Pings, who provides further details on the transfer drama today.
Bijlow was all set to move to Southampton this week after the two sides reached an agreement over the weekend.
He had said goodbye to Feyenoord and was planning to seal a move, until there was last-minute drama that brought the deal crashing down on Tuesday.
The goalkeeper shared on social media that the transfer had been cancelled after he’d had a disagreement with Southampton during his medical.
It seemed the two parties did not agree with how one of his previous injuries had been dealt with, although there was no information on which injury Southampton had an issue with.
Bijlow has suffered two wrist fractures since 2022, with the first in 2022/23 seeing him miss 68 days and 16 games for club and country. He was out again the following season with a wrist fracture again, this time missing 53 days and 11 games in total.
And it seems Southampton were left concerned by that, even if the player is adamant there’s no issue.
“Where in the case of Stengs, his knee, which was damaged in the past, was strictly examined, Southampton reportedly fell over Bijlow’s wrist,” he said.
“That body part has sometimes played tricks on him in the past, but anyone who saw the goalkeeper training in Germany last summer during the European Championship and in recent weeks at Feyenoord, certainly did not see a player with physical discomfort.
“He will most likely have to wait a long time before he can get rid of the disappointment or frustration of these bizarre days.”
