On March 1st, TyC Sports stated Manchester United had initiated contact for Boca Juniors’ Aaron Anselmino.
Fast forward to May and Planeta Boca Juniors and El Crack Deportivo Noticias provide the latest on the Red Devils’ pursuit of the 19-year-old.
Planeta Boca Juniors say Manchester United have been following the defender since the start of this year.
Even though the centre-back has made four appearances this year, his profile, qualities and potential seem to have convinced Erik ten Hag’s side.
It’s claimed Manchester United see Anselmino as a ‘gem’ and are ‘willing to do anything’ to sign him. It’s further claimed they are ‘determined’ and are ‘willing to make a superior offer’ of up to $25m [£19.6m] to secure his services.
The youngster suffered an injury in April and the Argentine club are carefully managing his return, in order to avoid a setback. As well as Manchester United, Chelsea are also in the race to sign the Argentine, with the Blues seemingly interested in any rated youngster in South America.
Journalist Jonathan Riniti told El Crack Deportivo Noticias that Manchester United want to activate Anselmino’s release clause, in order to beat the Blues for his signature.
“Manchester United are willing to pay Anselmino’s clause. It would be the biggest sale in the club’s history, as they would offer the €25m that he has in his termination clause. The Red Devils want him before Chelsea take him off their hands,” he said.
Whilst these claims are big, it’s perhaps worth waiting for TyC Sports to wade in before getting too excited.
