Returning from a successful loan at Troyes in France, Manchester City’s Issa Kaboré was never going to stay long at the Etihad.
He was always one for the future, and with both Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker already at the club to cover the right-back position, the Burkina Faso international wasn’t going to get regular game time.
That’s why he was sent to Marseille on loan, who needed a backup for Jonathan Clauss, just in case the Frenchman got injured.
Well, that’s now happened, and the Manchester City loanee could now face a fair chunk of game time over the next week and a bit while the regular starter recovers, which La Provence cover on Friday.
Speaking to his uncle, Charles Kaboré, the newspaper get a bit of inside information on how things have gone so far, as the player prepares for a start this weekend against AC Ajaccio on Saturday.
The former footballer said: “With Clauss, it was complicated for Issa. He’s as good as him, but he needs to increase his level. I’ve seen all his games since the start, he seems fine, he plays how he always has. He’s really attacking. He can even play winger if there are four at the back. He’s mobile, creates overlaps, takes risks and never stops running.”
La Provence also add the player ‘turned away several options this summer’ in order to go to Marseille, who have an option to make the loan a permanent transfer if they so wish.
In fact, Kaboré has, in the past, made it clear he would like to stay in the south of France, and wasn’t overly interested in returning to Manchester City.
