Stade Briochin coach Guillaume Allanou has revealed all about Sunderland after being given behind the scenes access by the Black Cats.
Le Telegramme have an interview with the coach today. Allanou spent all last week in Sunderland as part of his BEPF coaching qualification.
The BEPF (Brevet d’Entraîneur Professionnel de Football) is the highest professional football coaching qualification awarded in France by the French Football Federation. It’s the equivalent of the UEFA Pro License.
That involved ‘immersion’ in Sunderland, where Allanou and other coaches were given behind the scenes access. They were able to observe all corners of the club under Régis Le Bris.
As a matter of fact, Le Telegramme report that it was thanks to the Sunderland manager that the trip was ‘made possible’.
Allanou explains in the interview that everything was made open as a result. He had access to the dressing rooms, meetings and even the possibility to exchange with Sunderland’s staff. It was obviously a major moment for the coach, who was given exclusive access to a Premier League club.
That’s something few are privileged to experience, particularly those from a side currently in the third tier of French football. He was clearly delighted with it all, revealing everything he’d seen.
Sunderland manager delegates a lot out
“Régis (Le Bris) delegates a lot of the training side of things,” he said.
“He has six assistant coaches, not counting the athletic trainers, the doctor, the physiotherapists, etc. On Tuesday, there were eleven members of the staff on the sidelines. His priority is to focus on the matches.
“He conducted the debriefing after the Arsenal game (2-2, November 8th) and prepared the Fulham game. He’s a true manager. He gives the directives; he sets the work priorities. Then it’s the assistant coaches who design the sessions and manage all the operational aspects.
“There’s a coach in charge of the defenders and then another for the midfielders and another for the forwards. And then a set-piece specialist… Régis only keeps the pre-match session. He takes over everything concerning the game plan and tactics.”
