Earlier this month, Manchester United were linked with a move for Como’s Assane Diao.
The winger has impressed for the Italian side since his arrival in Serie A, scoring six times in all competitions.
Newcastle United and Liverpool have also been linked with the 19-year-old but things are slowly pointing towards Manchester United’s interest mounting for the talent.
Cesc Fabregas spoke at Como’s press conference before their league game against Torino today and he directly mentioned the Red Devils as an interested party in Diao.
He said, via SportItalia: “There is no mentality of speculating and selling, they come here to grow and improve the team. Then obviously, Manchester [United] can come and ask for Diao by offering €40m, but it is not a given that he will leave.”
Speaking further about Como’s identity and plans with younger players, the Spaniard said: “The objective is to create a path, with players who are functional to the characteristics, working with them.
“Obviously the value increases, but the important thing is that they are the right players for us.”
It certainly cannot be a coincidence that only Manchester United got a mention from Fabregas, when the Como manager was speaking of Diao.
However, it is a surprise as the Senegalese youngster is only three months into his stint.
Having said that, he has shown his versatility at Real Betis as well, playing upfront or on either flanks.
Considering Ruben Amorim’s side are not expected to keep hold of Jadon Sancho, Antony and Marcus Rashford, signing Diao could be an option this summer.
