Late on Monday, various reports stated Atlético Madrid’s Matheus Cunha has emerged as a new target for Manchester United.

It was also explained the Red Devils are in talks with the La Liga side over a potential deal for the forward.

These claims of Manchester United interest in the 23-year-old have reached Spain, with journalist Miguel Martín Talavera providing an update on this case to Cadena Ser’s El Larguero.

He states Los Rojiblancos are not willing to negotiate with Erik ten Hag’s side and are referring to the Brazil international’s clause. Cunha can ‘only go out’ of the club if the Old Trafford side were to trigger it. There’s no mention of what the former Hertha Berlin man’s current clause is at the Metropolitano.

Cunha came off the bench in his side’s 3-0 win over Getafe on Monday and doesn’t seem to be one of the main options to lead Atlético’s attack.

Despite this, Diego Simeone stressed on several occasions last season he has confidence in the South American. In addition, the Madrid club also have confidence in the player for this campaign, which is why they are not ready to negotiate with Manchester United.

Another journalist, Enrique Ortego, who focuses his reporting on Atlético and Real Madrid, told Onda Cero’s Radio Estadio Noche that Manchester United are ‘desperate’ for Cunha and it seems they are going to make a €50m offer to sign him.

The Brazilian managed seven goals and eight assists in all competitions last term for the La Liga side.
