Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo has insisted everyone is delighted with life under Arne Slot so far, believing the Dutch boss has quickly won himself fans inside the club.
The forward has been speaking to Via Play, via Sport Nieuws, about life at Liverpool as they continue to adapt to life under their new manager.
Slot took over at Anfield earlier this summer, succeeding Jurgen Klopp after he elected to step away from the game after an intense period on Merseyside.
The belief is that Slot was targeted by those in charge at Liverpool as the transition from Klopp to him could be a smooth process, with the pair sharing similar traits and tactics.
The Dutch boss has promised a different style of football to what came under his predecessor, though, something which has been evident so far.
Fortunately, the Reds have enjoyed a solid pre-season and were in impressive form on the opening weekend against Ipswich, with a strong second half display seeing them run out comfortable winners.
That secured all three points for Slot on the opening day and helped to release some of the pressure and intrigue around him.
In the meantime, he continues to work with the squad he inherited to get them better adapted to his style of play. Gakpo is clearly happy with that work and what he’s seen so far.
“A lot has changed compared to Klopp, but he makes a very good impression. It is not necessarily better or worse, but it has mainly changed,” he said.
“Last season it was more from the counter, but that is only advantageous. We will soon have mastered both systems. That can take us far.
“He (Slot) is just very honest and direct, which is beneficial to players. Then you always know where you stand. The matches in the preparation were good right away and we also won that first match against Ipswich. Then you immediately have plus points within the club and you’re already in. If it continues like this, we can have a great year.”
