Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to join Real Madrid after his contract at Liverpool runs down in June.

On March 20th, AS stated the right-back has reached an agreement and only his signature in missing to join the La Liga club.

Later that month, Marca reported Real Madrid want to negotiate with Liverpool to secure his early release for the FIFA Club World Cup. The tournament will kick start on June 14th, while the 26-year-old’s contract is until end of that month.

Real Madrid’s immediate focus is on the Champions League fixture against Arsenal today. Ahead of this clash, Marca had a chat with former Gunners right-back Lauren, who was asked about Alexander-Arnold.

The newspaper asked the 48-year-old Cameroonian who is currently the best right-back in the world.

“Before the injury, it was [Dani] Carvajal. Right now, I would choose Alexander-Arnold,” he said.

Lauren had spells in Spain during his playing career with Utrera, Sevilla, Levante, RCD Mallorca and Córdoba.

When asked whether the Liverpool star would be a good signing for Real Madrid, Lauren explained: “Without a doubt. He has everything: he’s fast, he can get off the ball, he plays as a number five, and he’s a glove on set pieces. He crosses like Beckham. Yes, he would fit in.”

AS spoke to former Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal to preview the upcoming Champions League clash between Gunners and Real Madrid. They also asked him about signing the Liverpool defender for the Spanish giants.

“He’s a great signing. I think he’s a great player, and he’s been proving it for many years. It would be very good for Madrid, especially now without Carvajal. Having Arnold means magnificently strengthening that position because he’s a player with a lot of quality, experience, and a very good foot,” he added.
