Liverpool and Newcastle United are ‘still there’ for RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan, but risk missing out to Al-Nassr.
That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who say the Saudi Arabian side are ‘pushing a lot’ to secure the defender’s signature.
Plettenberg reports that Al-Nassr are currently the ‘most concrete option’ for the 24-year-old at this moment in time.
Simakan has regularly been linked with a move away from Leipzig this summer after establishing himself for the German side since a €15m move from Strasbourg in July 2021.
Liverpool and Newcastle have both been credited with an interest this summer, with it reported yesterday that Newcastle were exploring a deal after Liverpool had previously made contact.
They face serious competition from Al-Nassr, though, who are pushing to secure the Frenchman’s signature. RB Leipzig are aware of these efforts and have already lined up Antonio Silva from Benfica as a replacement.
The transfer will depend on the player, who will be left to decide whether he wants to remain in Europe or make the move to Saudi Arabia.
Perhaps he will bide his time at the end of the window, waiting to see if Liverpool or Newcastle do anything concrete before making that choice.
