Leeds United have to be wary of competition from other clubs in the race to sign Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Issouf Sissokho and have to step up quickly to bring him to the Premier League in the winter market.

The Malian’s profile and contract situation has seen him attract interest from a few clubs. This includes Leeds United, who have already taken steps to secure his services.

He moved to Europe when Bordeaux signed him in 2020 and left them as a free agent in 2024. Sissokho then moved to Israel, where he has been a regular, playing 97 matches, of which 14 are from this season.

Leeds United preparing offer after contact

On October 20th, Sport Witness relayed news of the Whites starting discussions to sign the defensive midfielder in January. Daniel Farke’s side have been preparing to submit an official offer in the coming weeks.

There was no mention of a fee or Maccabi Tel Aviv’s stance/demand. Africa Foot covered this report and a fresh report from the same outlet backs up Leeds United’s interest.

Africa Foot points out the Elland Road club have registered their interest in the player. The report mainly focuses on Levante UD’s interest and providing competition to Leeds United and others.

La Liga threat for Leeds United

The Spanish club already made initial contact with the 24-year-old’s agent over a January move.

Levante don’t want to waste any time and are preparing to submit an offer of around €3m ‘very soon’. Issouf Sissokho’s contract expires in 2027, with an option for another year. Transfermarkt value him at €1.7m.

The La Liga side are willing to submit an offer higher than his market value. This shows their firm desire to secure the Malian’s services in the winter market. Leeds United and Sporting Braga are keen, and the two clubs will face a threat from Levante.

Daniel Farke’s side are also preparing to table a bid and have to match or offer more than what Levante are planning to submit.

The next window ‘looks set to be decisive’ for the player, indicating he could be on the move in January.

Africa Foot states his future could be in Spain. Therefore, Leeds United have to act quickly if they wish to bring Sissokho to Elland Road.
