Aston Villa have been credited with interest in signing Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt during the winter market.

These claims initially appeared in the UK media, where it was reported he’s high on Aston Villa’s target list. Wednesday’s edition of Bild relays that and then provides their take on Aston Villa’s chances of signing Brandt in January.

The attacking midfielder is in his final year of contract and BVB have offered him an extension.

Bild say Aston Villa’s reported interest would put him in a good position when negotiating the renewal. Without a new contract, the next window will be Borussia Dortmund’s last chance to earn a fee from his sale.

Aston Villa move won’t be happening in January

That’s unlikely to happen as the newspaper dismisses the 29-year-old leaving BVB for Aston Villa or any other club in January.

Brandt wants to continue with the Bundesliga club at least until the end of this season. In addition to this, he hasn’t held concrete talks with any club so far.

It’s unclear whether Brandt will sign an extension at Borussia Dortmund. He first wants to know BVB’s long-term plans, both for him and the club, and how he’ll fit into it.

Brandt has scored four goals and contributed two assists from 13 matches this season.
