Over the past two months, Newcastle United have been pushed forward as the main candidate to sign Málaga CF’s Antonio Cordero in the summer window.
The 18-year-old has a contract expiring in June and hasn’t accepted a renewal offer.
Last week, various claims from Spain stated the winger has agreed to join Newcastle for free in the summer window. They also stated he’s getting a five-year contract with the Premier League club.
The Segunda División club will face SD Eibar in the league later today. Ahead of this tie, Málaga manager Sergio Pellicer attended the pre-match press conference and Radio Marca Málaga have relayed his comments.
Pellicer was asked about the Spain U19 international agreeing to join the Magpies. The head coach said he has held talks with Cordero, who is fully committed to his current club at the moment.
“I’m not going to talk about the individual. It’s a collective moment. I see that everyone wants it and trains as we ask. I see the whole group aware,” he said.
“I talked to him and he’s 100%. Everything else escapes me. Some of them, they don’t know it, but they are going to score a very important goal this season.”
The Newcastle target has scored five goals and registered five assists from 33 games this season.
Last week, AS stated Newcastle’s offer was financially superior to the one proposed by Málaga for the renewal. They also reported Eddie Howe’s side will send Cordero out on loan next season so that he continues his development.
