Following their 3-2 win over Newcastle United, the mood around Chelsea will be a bit lighter, as the Blues are currently just one point behind the Magpies with a chance of overtaking them and Wolves if they win their game in hand.
One of the key members of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad these days is Malo Gusto, who has started 15 of a possible 21 games in the Premier League this season, and who is eyeing up a spot, hopefully, in Didier Deschamps’ squad for the Euros.
Whether he achieves it or not depends on him and what the manager thinks of his displays, and, speaking to Le Parisien, he admits he will be looking out for his name on the next squad list for the upcoming international break.
Asked about what has changed in his life since he joined Chelsea from Lyon on a permanent basis after an initial loan back to the Ligue 1 side, the right-back revealed it was his daily routine.
One of the biggest advocates for taking care of his body is Thiago Silva, who is still going strong as he nears 40 years of age, and Gusto reveals the Chelsea centre-back has been a big help for him.
The youngster added: “What struck me when I first arrived was that, at his age, he’s focused on everything he does and he’s very fussy. He arrives at training early, leaves late and pays great attention to his body. That’s what inspires me about him. We’ve talked about a lot of things, his career, his time in Paris, and he really pushes me to pay attention to every detail and to listen to my body, because it’s our work tool.
“I had some minor physical problems at the start of the season, and he always told me to focus all my recovery on listening to my body, to give it what it needs without being in a hurry to come back or do too much. Just be with it.”
Since returning from his loan, Gusto has made 28 appearances for Chelsea and picked up seven assists in all competitions, showing just why the Blues were prepared to spend €30m on his services.
